Remi Adopted Dec 2007

We adopted Remi as a Christmas present for our family.  We couldn't have adopted a more perfect dog for our us.  Remington is a beautiful and smart chocolate lab that turns heads everywhere she goes.  She is a fantastic retriever, and loves to go duck hunting.  She retrieves ducks on command in the fields and water.  Seeing her stunning stride and her form in the water is truly amazing.  She is also our daughter's best friend.  She sleeps with her every night and is a constant shadow.  Remi loves the special visits she has with her foster home as well.  She practically jumps into her foster moms arms when she comes to visit.  We are truely blessed to have Remi as part of our family.

Fritz (aka Zwie)
adopted Nov 2006

131 pounds of fun,  "Fritz," and John have a wonderful life together.  Fritz, a leonberger mix was adopted November 2006 from Lake Norman Animal Rescue sponsored by Pet Smart in Mooresvile.

Fritz has his two buddies to play with all day ; Morgan, a Flat-Coat Retriever and Lucy, a Border Collie mix [also rescues].

The gang's favorite activity is their weekly romp at a local golf course and playing in their dog pond and yard.

They got their pictures in the Salisbury Post last summer while participating in "Paws in the Park" sponsored by Rowan County's Faithful Friends, a group working to establish a no-kill shelter in the county.

Monty (Smaller dog)
Adopted March 2008

Monty and Lola get along just great!  We are proud parents of two wonderful pets.  Thanks for all your help.

Thank you,

Bunny Adopted October 2007

Hello,

I just wanted to give ya'll an update on Bunny.  She is doing great.   She has adjusted right into the family life and routine.  At first we didn't know why her name was Bunny but now we can see how well it fits. She bounces like a Bunny when she runs through the yard.  It is so cute and very fitting.  We have chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels in our yard and she just loves chasing them out of the fence and up the trees.   She is very playful. She is a very good dog, very gentle with the kids and very willing to please.

She has had only one accident inside the house but that was on the first day and she has been very good since then.  She did not eat on the first 2 days so we tried adding a little of the canned food to the dry Pedigree.  That has helped but she is still not as eager of an eater as we thought she would be.  (John, what time of the day did you feed her?   once or twice a day?)  We started her on the heart worm prevention and the Frontline for fleas and ticks.  She goes to the vet today for a check up. We registered her online for the 24PetWatch.

All in all, she is doing very well.  She is a very good dog and she seems to be quite happy in her new family.  Of course, we couldn't be happier to have her here.  You did a very good thing when you saved her and brought her into your care.  What a tragedy it would have been to lose such a good dog.  Thanks again.

Sincerely, Cynthia Kelly

Stella (aka Candy Cane)
adopted Dec 2006
puppy photo on left

Just thought you might like to see how one of your puppies has grown up....
She's a full fledged Colorado mountain dog now!!

Stella is now a year old (at least we think so since we got her from you
last December).  She had a great summer hiking,  mountain biking, and
learning to swim.  And...with snow already falling in the high country,
she's already been down her first ski run!!

This is a dog with endless energy!  Stella LOVES to run (for miles, and
staying well ahead of the mountain bikers) and, unlike any dog I have ever
seen, she leaps straight up in the air like an antelope when she's trying to
catch things moving in the grass.

So, although definitely not a Bernese Mountain Dog mix (the best we can
figure from our internet searches is that she is a smooth coated tri-colored
collie), she has turned out to be the BEST dog for our family!

Thanks again for saving her life and allowing my family to adopt her!

Festus Adopted May 2007
puppy photo on left

Hello Stephanie, Beth, Sharon, and all at LNAR:

My husband and I drove 10 hours from Northeastern PA on May 18, 07 to adopt an "extra-large" puppy named "Festus" that we had never met!  We were very unsure of it, because...what if we didn't like him?!  What if he didn't like us?!

But, Festus has turned out great!  We just wanted to say THANK YOU!  We thought we would send an update.  The first night home, I weighed him at 29 pounds.  We kept the name Festus, because we thought it was very original and different!

Festus is now about 10 months old and he is a handful!  He is ALL puppy...in fact, he is 75 pounds of puppy!  He owns our house, our couch, our bed, the 2-acre yard, and definitely owns the kitchen!  (I have learned that no food is safe unless it is in the oven or the refrigerator!).   We have a pool table in our rec room downstairs.  He loves to help play pool by pushing the balls on the table.  Yes, that is pushing the balls around...without putting his paws on the table...he can just reach his head across the table about 12 inches from the edge!  In the kitchen, he has to put his head down onto the kitchen table!  (Yes, down!)

But we love him!  He has turned into a very handsome dog.  He still barks with a southern accent, but that adds to his character.  Just kidding!  :)

A few weeks ago, we expanded our back porch.  Festus loved to help with the digging -- his strong front paws could have an 8 inch hole in no time!  I have attached a picture of Festus in the dirt!  It's my favorite pic of him recently.

Thanks again -- we'll send pictures of Festus in the snow this winter!
Jody and Mike Kull....and Festus.

Mocha and Latte adopted 2007

Mocha and Latte are growing like weeds and are enjoying there new home. They are getting a nice big
backyard fenced in this week so they will have lots of exercise soon.   Latte the male is growing bigger than his sister. Who would have guessed the runt with half of his tail hair missing would be the strongest!!!

Morgan Adopted Sept 2007

How can we begin to express our delight with Morgan!  She has brought such joy to our house!  We had waited so long to get a dog (much to our children's chagrin) because we wanted them to be old enough to appreciate and accept responsibility for having another life in the house.  It's as if God handpicked Morgan for us.  She is just the angel dog we were looking for!  We cannot tell you the happiness she has brought to our lives, and hopefully we have done the same for her.  She has become healthy and playful (not to mention, beautiful), yet always loving and gentle.  She has bounced back from heart worm treatment very well.  It has been so fun to see our kids nursing and caring for her through this time.  We can't say enough good things about her.  Our only problem is we have such guilt any time we have to leave the house without taking her with us!  She looks at us with such forlorn eyes when we're leaving.  We hope that in time she'll know we're always coming back!  Each day she continues to learn to trust us.  She loves to go with us everywhere! The photo is from our recent camping trip to Sliding Rock National Forest.  Morgan so enjoyed hiking and being with us.  It has been amazing to see her progress physically!  Thank you, Lake Norman Animal Rescue, for bringing us the greatest present our family could ever have!

Raven Adopted Nov 2006

Raven with her siblings
Update
I
ts been a year since we adopted Raven!  We still marvel at how she got out of the van November 4th, 2006 and basically made it clear very quickly that she was here to stay.  We adopted a bi-color female GSD on the 4th of July this year, two days away from euthanization, from Lee Co (SC) animal shelter.  She is around 2 yrs old.  Meadow has undergone heartworm treatment (split treatment), antibiotics for uterine infection, and meds for mange.  Wow Beth...LNAR's adoption fee is so reasonable!  We will find out next week if Meadow is ready to be spayed.
Raven likes her when she is respectful toward "Her Highness" (that would be Miss Raven!)  but is quick to let both Piper and Meadow know that they should not annoy her too much!  Just wanted to forward you some pics, say hello, and thank you again for such a wonderful dog.  :)

Leo (aka Zehn) adopted March 2007
puppy photo on left

Greetings from Chesterfield Missouri

It has been seven months since we adopted our 'Leo' from your rescue foster home.  He was known to you as Zehn, but we renamed him Leo 'the Leonberger' once we got him to his new home.   We drove all the way back home to St. Louis, from Charlotte, his paws wrapped around my neck and on my lap.  As you can see from the attached picture Leo has grown into quite a 'big boy' and no longer fits on anyone's lap.  I take him to our Vet's office every three weeks for his 'weigh-in', and today, he weighed-in at 89.8 lbs.  He is tall, muscular and very strong!

Our grandson Alex loves to play with him but has yet to outrun Leo (no one can outrun Leo).  Playing ball with Leo is more like playing 'tag' with the wind.  He can outrun all of us and delights in the game of keep away and chase.  When you are within reaching distance of him, he takes off like a 'shot' and the chase is on!  His personality is a cross between 'Pluto, Goofy and Dumbo'.  He is laughable and entertaining ALL of the time.   He excelled in obedience training, is extremely smart and is very well behaved (although his enthusiasm can topple even the strongest target of his 'affection').

At Leo's first visit to our vet, the doctor grinned and said, 'What a COOL Dog'.  He makes over him everytime he sees him.

Our only regret in the adoption process, is that we did not take his brother Zwei as well.  Leo is so sociable that we are now looking to adopt a 'pet-friend' for him, and had we had known how wonderful this (mixed) breed is, we would have taken his litter-mate.  My husband is afraid that introducing another pet into our home might somehow change Leo's wonderful personality, but I believe that any pet joining Leo will become all the better for his presence.

Thank you all for allowing us to adopt this wonderful guy,  And a special thanks to Beth Webster, for her contribution to Leo's formative weeks, prior to the adoption.

Sincerely,
 Diane & Jim Moffat

Miles Adopted April 2006

Hey,
We wanted to let you know that Miles is doing great.  We adopted him in April 2006 and he was 11 lbs and is over 75 lbs now.  Miles makes his home in Statesville where he has a fenced in back yard and enjoys taking walks around the neighborhood and going to the soccer park to chase a ball.  Miles also enjoys chasing his feline sister around the house although she doesn't much care for it.  Miles loves to steal our socks and dish towels.  He also loves any toys that make noise. Miles completed Puppy Class at Petsmart in July of last year and we hope to get him in the Intermediate Class as soon as time permits.  Miles enjoys going to Petsmart and interacting with the other dogs.  He has been a wonderful addition to our family.
Take care,
Todd and Erica

Bridgette (aka Sadie)
adopted May 2007

Sadie (Bridgett) is doing great!  We LOVE her, and she is as frisky as can be!  She owned us and the house within in an hour of coming home!  She's quite an active addition to our house and is quite comfortable.  Again, thank you for your involvement in this... Sadie has found a wonderful home and we are so happy to have her!

-Deborah A. O'Neill

Macky (aka Emmit) adopted April 2007

We thought you would like to see how well Emmit is doing.  We call him Macky, short for Mactavish.  He is a darling and gives us so much joy.  Macky says, "Thank you for rescuing me.  I have no more heart worms, and I love my new home."

God bless you!

 Alice Jeanes

Gertie (aka Rosita) adopted August 2007

I am writing in regards to Rosita.  WE LOVE HER!!!!!!  She is wonderful.  We've named her Gertrude Rose (in honor of her original 'Rosita') Welsh and we're calling her 'Gertie'.  Anyhow- she's not barked even once and so far seems to be completely housebroken.  WOW!!!!  All of that on top of her sweet demeanor and we feel like we've won the dog lottery, so to speak.   Again, thank you for allowing us the privilege of loving Gertie forever.  She has multiplied the love in our home.  Gertie is BEAUTIFUL!

 -Donna Welsh

Lucy (aka Star) adopted July 2007
Just wanted to let you know that Lucy  is settling into our home great! She is such a sweetie.   She is so snuggly and calm. She has her puppy moments but coming into a family that has a terrier mix, she seems extremely calm to us!!! She rides in the car very well and is going to the beach with us in a couple of weeks. We love her and are so glad that we were chosen as her family.

Beau (aka)Sebastian Adopted May 2007

Hi!    I wanted to write you and let you know how I am doing.  We had a very long ride home!  I got to ride in my new mommy's lap and I really liked that!  We decided that since I am getting a brand new start I needed a new name too.  We decided on Beau since I am moving into a new home with nothing but girls and I will be everyone's "Beau".  Friday I am going to the beauty shop.  I'm not sure yet what that is, but Brandy and Whitney say that I will like it and that mommy will be making a fuss over me afterwards!!!  Todaywe are going to Petsmart and buying  some more toys!  Thank you very much for saving me and for finding me a forever home that loves me so much already!

Beau and his mommy (Jamie)

Jasmine adopted July 2007

I thought you might like to see what Jasmine has been up to. She's quite the kitty. I love her so much! Thanks again for bringing us together! I made a cute little website for my family and friends.

Marco and Mario adopted June 2007

LKN Rescue Folks,

Here are just a few pictures to show you how "sad" Marco and Mario are at their new home. As you can see they don't live very comfortably at all!

Keep up the good work,

Ace (aka Mystery) adopted May 2007

Hi! We are the family that adopted Mystery ( the sable collie/aussie mix puppy.  We picked him up on May 1st . . . He is doing extemely well - he's a smart little guy and gets lots and lots of attention and love.   My older Aussie keeps a perpetual harassed look and there are tufts of his undercoat everywhere thanks to Ace. : )   As you will notice from the attached pictures, Ace has decided that the best place to sleep is on the family room a/c vent.  As long as he is cool, who cares if the rest of us mere mortals are overheated!  He's a hoot. We are very happy that we made the drive over to adopt him.

Kiwi (aka DA) adopted May 2007

Well, it has been 4 months now, and time for another "Kiwi" update. Kiwi has done so well, and I am so proud of him. Enclosed are some pictures of Kiwi's graduation from his first class at Petsmart .
Can you tell how proud HE is - see how his little chest is puffed out! Also, we enrolled him in another class that has obedience, socialization, and agility. I really don't know who enjoys it more - him or me! He has benefited so much from these classes - I see such improvement in his confidence and trust. I also see a much happier dog now.
We are working toward gaining the Canine Good Citizen Certificate so we could go into nursing homes, etc.
He is so precious, and I feel we have established a strong bond for the 4 months he has been with us. Hope you and your family (children and doggies) are all doing well. Kiwi sends his love!
Best regards,
Ronnie, Sandy & Kiwi

Aris adopted June 2007

Things are going better then we could have imagined.  The way Aris is acting, you would never know he was abused.  He is a very happy dog.  He loves attention, he loves to be pet.  He comes over to both Allison and me for attention.  When we first got him home it was either that Saturday or Sunday … Allison and I were sitting in our chairs watching TV and Aris tried to crawl into my lap to get loved.  Before I knew it he had half of his body in my lap.  That night he touched both of our hearts.  We were really expecting that he would be a bit stand-off-ish … he has been everything but.  He is equally great with both Allison and me.  Well that was last weekend and each day he gets better.  We can tell he gets more comfortable each day. He is just fitting right in.  Even though everything is going great, we continue to treat him as a dog who had a hard life and who has some scares.  We continue to take it slow with him especially when introducing him to new situations; we are trying to make sure that he always feels secure and safe and we respect him when he shows the slightest sign of not being ready for something.  He is great dog for us. We are proceeding slow and cautious with introducing new people … maybe that is why things are going well.  Bottom line, Aris is a great dog for us.  We are very very happy and he is very comfortable and happy here. Thank you both for all you did to save his life.

Take Care,
Ed & Allison Binder

Festus adopted June 2007

Hello,

Well, we made it home after adopting Festus on Saturday morning -- it was a
long drive back, but Festus did well in the car. We drove 4 hours on
Saturday and then drove 5 hours Sunday. He's been great so far -- we love him already! Thank you so much for letting us adopt him! I have attached two
pictures -- one of him sleeping in the car and a one of him sitting on his
dog bed in our living room.
Again, thanks so much for Festus (we're keeping the name because it's so
unique!) -- he's enjoying his new "forever home".
Keep up the good work! You guys were great to work with!
Thanks,
Jody Kull

Tucker (aka Thunder) adopted May 2007

Hi Beth,

Just wanted to let you know Tucker is doing great, he's smart as a whip and likes to play chase me and try to catch me if you can.  We love him and he is almost potty trained.

Paisley adopted April 2007

.  I just wanted to drop you a few lines and let you know how I am doing!!  I am loving my new home and my new family!  I adapted well and everyone seems to love me (well, I seem to love everyone!)  I am spoiled rotten by my new family, all kinds of new toys and experiences.  I am now about 14.25 pounds, so Dr Stewart, my sweet vet says, and am very healthy.  I don't have to go back to her for a year now!  I love everybody...adults, kids, even other animals (thought I must admit, I go a little crazy when I see the squirrels playing in the back yard!)  Even my great-granddaddy has taken to me and loves me!  I'm sending some pics so you can see how much I have grown and how much I love my new family!

Thank you Lake Norman Animal Rescue for taking good care of me while I waited for my mommy to adopt me!

Love Always

"Paisley" Sheppard

Katie (aka Allissa) adopted July 2007

Greetings LKN rescue,

I have attached some recent pictures of Katie aka Alisa. She is a wonderful
girl and we are learning more about each other every day.

Katie's vet appointment was last Monday and she checked out fine. She is
eating well and making some attempts to be friends with Savannah and
Valentine (cats). We have started leash training (not sure who is being
trained yet).

Thank you for saving Katie. She is a blessing.

Butch Adopted March 2007

A little background.....All the rules were broke for Butch to find his way home.   As a three legged dog, Butch was never suppose to be put up for adoption or rescue.  He was slated for euthanasia after he was abandoned at an municipal animal control shelter.  It was felt because of his "disability" and age (he is around 5) he was not adoptable.  When we heard about Butch, we immediately knew we could place him.....and when that home came, again "rules" were broken.  You see in the rescue world, it is usually though "gift" animals are not such a good idea, however this seemed to be a match made in heaven.  Less than 48 hours after he was rescued we received an email from two sisters who's father had been searching for a companion,  you see, he also had lost a leg, and when he saw Butch's photo, he immediately felt an connection and that he and Butch were to be together, however he was not sure how that could happen as he could not travel.   Poppie did not know his daughters traveled to adopt Butch for him.   Butch was brought home as a surprise.  Somehow all the stars aligned and Butch and Poppie found each other, and we are so proud to have been able to be a part of their story.   Here is the update from Butch and Poppie.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!
FOR PUTTING BUTCH UP FOR ADOPTION EVERYONE IN OUR FAMILY LOVES HIM
WHEN MY DAD "POPPIE" TAKES THE YOUNGEST GRANDCHILD (5 MONTHS OLD) FOR A
RIDE ON THE SCOOTER, BUTCH GETS JEALOUS, HE IS SO CUTE RIDING ON THE
SCOOTER HE ALSO ENJOYS TAKING A WALK ALONG SIDE THE SCOOTER. HE IS A VERY
LOVABLE LITTLE GUY AND MY PARENTS SAY HE IS NO TROUBLE. I THINK BUTCH
WAS MEANT TO FIND A HOME WITH POPPIE. BUTCH WILL  BE WELL TAKEN CARE OF
WELL LOVED IN HIS NEW HOME.
THANK YOU!!!!
Julie, Poppies daughter

Sally (aka Valentine) adopted February 2007

Hi Jan,
Sally  is doing very well!! She is very playful and tears
through the house attacking anything she can. We are all thoroughly
enjoying her. At the moment her favorite thing is the fringe on my pillows!
Hopefully that will pass quickly! My boys have had a great time introducing
her to the neighbors and all the kids love to come and visit her!

I took her to the vet yesterday and she got her shots and will go back in a
few weeks for a follow up. She weighs 2 1/2 lbs. She eats all the time!

Fondly,
Sarah McKinney

Brody (aka Eggnog) adopted Dec 2006

Just wanted to let you know that the puppy is doing great!! His name is now Brody and he is growing by leaps and bounds. He just got his boosters and check-up on the 26th and he weighs 12 lbs. now and was doing excellent. He is such a quick learner. Right now he is in a crate by our bed at night until he is fully house trained, but he seems to love it. It is like a little den of chewies and stuffed puppies for him to sleep with. He also seems to enjoy the walks through our woods even in the rain. He is already fetching and spends time with a lot of different dogs, which he seems to love. He has even wore out my sister-in-laws boxer. Just wanted to update you on his progress.

Thanks again for this wonderful addition to our family.

Bobbie Comer

Josie (aka Blume) Adopted Feb 2007
German Shepherd

Hi Beth-

Update on Blume:  Great!  We love her, she's perfect for us.  Blume was fantastic in the car and we've gone to the pet store, had dinner, gone for a walk and are now officially pooped from this long, weird day.  Ed and I are really looking forward to knowing her already fantastic personality.  Tomorrow's agenda includes some tennis ball playing in a fenced area and a long walk.  And some snacks.  Yay! She's settled in wonderfully, she and Pinto play a lot and she's quiet in the house, curious about the cats but not in a bad way.  The only problem we have is her lack of inter-dog social skills, she's kind of a bully, but that's ok.  We'll take her to the dog park when she gets a little stronger and let the other dogs show her how to behave like a lady.  She really is super and fun and sweet and we're already smitten.  Thank you so much!

Sherrie and Ed

Milo (aka Buddy)  adopted Oct 2006
Hello,

We just wanted to give you an update on Milo (the dog formerly known as buddy). He joined our family in August and is loving everything. He is a very smart little guy who thinks that he is much bigger than he really is. He can't get enough of the squeaky toys and tennis balls. We had to have one of his teeth removed so his tongue is perpetually hanging out which only adds to his charm! We took a little road trip to Minnesota over the holidays and he didn't really know what the white stuff outside was, but once he got some boots on he couldn't get enough. Thank you so much for introducing us and letting Milo into our family. We are eternally grateful for the work that you do.
Sincerely
Jeff, Tedi and Milo Maso

Latte (aka Victoria) adopted November 2006

Hey Sharon Good Morning, just wanted to share some pictures with you.
Mocha & Latte are growing up and are getting stronger by the day.
Latte's tail is almost completely full of hair now. He is definitely the
snuggler of the two. I am sending you some photos of the two as well as
Oliver aka Mickey.
They wrestle all day and all night. They are starting to gang up on
Oliver now but are still a little intimidated by his size. He is
definitely the older brother of them. When he gets enough of them
wrestling he goes in and separates them with his snout. He literally
pushes them apart to move them to other things. They are crate trained
now and are listening to commands very well at such a young age. We are
so happy they are a part of our family now. They keep us entertained for
hours. Mocha the female is very smart and loves to dive bomb her brother
outside when they go to the bathroom. Last night in the snow they had so
much fun. They seemed to really enjoy the snow. When I get some pictures
on the digital camera I will send you some real photos.
Thanks again for our new family members.

Joseph S. Sylvester

Raven (aka Madel)  adopted 2007

Hi Beth!  Bryan and I think about you often, and hope you and your family are well.  I have to admit we check lknr site all the time!  How is Zauber? Bryan had wanted me to call you or write to you about Blume.  What a pretty girl!  I'm glad to see she was adopted quickly.  Although I too felt drawn to her, I think I'm still not ready since things didn't work out with Tank in our family.  Is he doing well with his new family?  I hope so.  Such a sweet and beautiful boy!
Raven is doing well.  We've only had to increase her pain meds a few times.  I think we had done just too much walking and playing on those days.  Beth, she is just SUCH a wonderful dog!  She is sweet, smart, funny, playful, and definitely strong-willed with Piper!.  They play-fight like a sister and her annoying little brother.  They always share each other's food with no problem, but she will NOT share her bed!  The other night we came in from playing and they both ran as fast as they could to her bed.  Piper won, and boy did she give him a piece of her mind!  Piper lays close to her bed, will bite it or put his paw on it to tease her, and she gives him the business.  It is SO funny!  They play well, with tug toys and balls, and sometimes even wrestle a bit.  Raven accidentally put her paw in Piper's ear last week and hurt him.  He yelped, and she was so upset, kissing him and checking repeatedly to make sure he was o.k. They have developed a close bond over the last few months. She and Cocoa continue to get along just fine.  Raven doesn't seek out attention from Cocoa, but seems happy when Cocoa comes over and gives her a kiss from time to time.  We continue to take Piper and Raven to doggie day care most Fridays so they can continue to interact with a variety of dogs in a supervised setting.  We take Raven on car rides when running errands whenever possible, and she loves it.  Raven runs to the car when asked "who wants to go for a ride"...but Piper runs to the house!
I remember worrying just a bit if we could love a dog adopted as an adult as much as we love our dogs we have had since puppies.  What a silly worry.  We all adore Raven, and can't imagine her not being a part of our family.  Beth, we are so lucky to have found Lake Norman, and so lucky to have found YOU!

Thank you and blessings to you and your family,
Bryan, Karen, David, Michael, Cocoa Mocha, Piper Cub, and Raven Maedel

Daisy (aka Shaggy) Adopted Feb 2006
first photo, when she first came into rescue
second photo after she was groomed

You are welcome for the donation.  In Feb. 06, my mother adopted a rescue dog from you (we drove all the way from Baltimore to come get her). Her name was Shaggy then, but now she's Daisy and she has turned out to be the most wonderful companion for my mother. So, I just wanted to show my appreciation to your rescue group for the happiness she has brought our family.

Happy Holiday's.

Michael (aka Carter) adopted December 2007

He is doing fine. He really is cuddly so everybody loves him. His new name is Michael - we already have a Gabriel - both were Christmas gifts so named for angels. We have not put the two cats together yet. So far it is just sniffs and hisses. We'll see how that goes in a couple of days. By the size of his appetite, paws and tail we've decided he is going to be a big cat! Thanks for training him so well - he even goes in the other cat's litter box and covers stuff up for him! We found Gabriel on the side of the road and I think he had always been an outdoor kitten so Michael is training Gabriel.
Cute fellow. Thanks for checking.
Merry Christmas,
Ann

Grover Adopted November 2006

They are doing great! Grover is coming out of his shell some now - he was VERY shy at first.

As you can see in the attached pictures, my mom has had him groomed and he is beautiful. She has taken him to her vet for a check up, and he looks healthy, and the vet said he was probably about eight years old. As you can also see from the pictures, my mom has fattened him up quite a bit!

Mom says they get along just fine, and he is the perfect dog for her. He's laid back and even walks well on a leash.

Another sucess story.

Priscilla Raven Adopted November 2006

Hi Everyone,

I hope your holidays went well.  Raven had many new experiences at Christmas with family and "Santa" gifts.  She and I and all around her had a lot of fun.  She has adjusted well and plays hard and seems very happy.  She's started accompanying me to the office some days.  She likes being with me and loves riding in the car. She continues to seem more secure, and runs for the house when we're outside and she is startled by a loud noise.

Thanks,
Kathleen White

Chase (aka Happy) adopted Nov 2006
We adopted Chase, was named Happy, in November 2006.  He was very shy but was thrilled when he got home and saw our cat.  He immediately chased her and was so proud of himself.  That is how he got the name, Chase.  He weighed 16 lbs on 11/06/06 by 12/20/06 he weighed 26 lbs.  He loves to play with our 5 yr old daughter.  Chase  gets along with animals great.  He has become very close to his big brother, a lab mix, and loves the cat he chased on the first day.  He makes all sorts of funny sounds when he is playing with them.  He has progressed very quickly overcoming some shyness towards people.  He has been such a joy and a blessing.  Thank you for rescuing him from animal control.  He has made a great addition to our family.  May the joy of Jesus be with you.

Emma Jean (Schwester)
adopted Nov 2006

How are you?  I'm emailing you to give you an update on Schwester (we renamed her Emma Jean).  She is doing great!  She is growing fast.  She and Big Boy, our Shepherd, are best friends.  He is so good with her it is unbelievable.    She's a bit bigger now.  As you can see, they really are bonded.
The other was just last week.  We bought some pots and pans and she was helping unpack the box!  She can be a handful!

Thanks so much for making this happen!

Bailey Adopted 2005

When our family starting considering getting a dog, I never even thought about adoption.  I had lots of horror stories in my mind of the kinds of problems that might lead to.  I used Pet Finders simply to explore breeds and found a dog that just called out to me.  She was a beautiful German Shepard about 2 years old.  I was still very apprehensive but contacted Lake Norman Animal Rescue anyway.  I spoke with Beth Webster, her foster mom, and learned Bailey had been rescued from a kill shelter and had heart worm, worms and lots of emotional worries.  She was also grossly underweight.  When I met her, she had been under Beth's care for a couple of months already.  She was still thin but much better.  More importantly, Beth said she was learning to trust again.  She was still VERY skittish with anyone outside of Beth's family but was great with them.  I watched Beth's toddler daughter crawl all over Bailey who just laid there calmly.  I also watched her play with the older children and felt it might work.

After adopting Bailey, it took a bit of time and patience to develop the same bond with her.  She was waiting to see if she had a forever home.  Over the weeks and months she became a different dog.  She is outgoing, loving and VERY gentle.  She is wonderful with our 9 year old daughter and fits our family perfectly.  I am newfound proponent of adopting these animals.  Since Bailey had lived with a foster home, I was able to have lots of information about her specific wants and needs.  I knew who to call when I had questions (only about 500 as I remember!).  Beth was as focused on finding the right match for her baby as I was in matching my family.  I cannot adequately express my gratitude to Lake Norman Rescue, Beth Webster and her family and the people who do this work.  It is truly an act of love!!

Tater (Mcguire) Adopted Sept 2006

Hi Stephanie – Hope your holidays went well.  Maguire is now known in our world as “Tater” and has adapted to the name quite well.  He is still a happy, mellow little guy and remains the star of the neighborhood.  We had to put our older dog Cedar down last week which has been really sad, and we all miss her terribly.  I have signed him up for doggie day care so that he still gets to play with other dogs.  We will probably start looking for another dog in the spring.

Breda Adopted September 2006

The only thing that we are sad about is that we didn't find Breda sooner.  She is going GREAT! New coat and she's gained over 15 pounds.  She gets along great with Sage.  IM so glad that we found your organization via on-line.  We cant thank you enough for putting us with such a loving, loyal dog!!!

Thank you and have a great Holiday,
Meagan and Scott

Bosco adopted April 2006

Bosco came into LNAR a very scared little dog in March.  He was severely malnourished and was so afraid of people that he would drop to the floor and piddle right where he was standing.   Mike and I began working with him trying to rehabilitate him for a new forever loving home.  By the time he was "ready" for a new home, we were so in love.   This boy is now playful, loving, snuggly, and "at home".  We decided that Bosco wasn't going anywhere.  He had found his forever home.  With continued therapy, training classes, socialization, and knowing that he would not be hit, Bosco has blossomed into the sweetest dogs I have ever been blessed to know.   While we have not broke him of his annoying habit of chewing shoe laces, we are proud to say that Bosco is a "foster failure" and will remain in our home for all of his doggy years!

Wellington adopted March 2006
(lighter colored dog)

Just a note to say Merry Christmas and how glad I am that Wellington was rescued by you.  He knows he has a forever home and he doens't always keep that one ear up.  He and Scamp get along great.  He LOVES pistachio nuts......I have to fight him off whenever I I eat them.  He is right there the minute he hears the bag rattle.  Have a wonderful holiday.

Lily Adopted December 2006

Hi Beth,
Huey and Lily are couch buddies now.  He's careful around her, and she gives him room when he's up gallopping around.  He just lets her climb right up and share his really tattered "throne" and sees to be really enjoying having her close.  He has a sor of "stick with me kid and I'll show you around" attitude, so cute.
She is such a love.

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas.

 Patty

Salsa adopted Nov 2005

Salsa is the best dog i have ever encountered.  She has never had an accident in the house and has never chewed on anything that was not hers to chew on.  She is protective of the kids and tolerant of the 2 year old.  She is so smart, we taught her to sit, lay down, roll over, beg, dance and even sneeze on command.  She has looks, brains and personality.......  SHE HAS IT ALL!  She acts as if she has always been a part of the family and we dont know what we did before her.  Im so glad she is part of our family.

Ginger (aka Amber) - Adopted August 2006

I should have written you back earlier, but things have been very busy (and fun) around here!  Ginger is doing wonderfully!  We love love love her!  She's been to the beach with us and is going back this weekend.  We've put a pet door there as well and so she has the run of the place, just like here.  She loves to run up and down the beach, stopping at each and every person to say Hi and get her head scratched.  She's getting along well with our other dog as well.  However, our  other dog is going through medication stability issues and is not the most active playmate right now.  But Ginger gets a big walk every night with the family and is quickly making friends around the neighborhood.

I'm going to try to send a picture with this note, but my computer doesn't always cooperate.  You will see that she's put on 3-4 pounds already!  She's an eater!  My husband spoils her terribly.  We have to grill a little steak for her every time we have one ourselves.  And Ginger takes turns sleeping with us one night and our daughter the other.  I'm telling you, she is rotten!  We say she got her "S" tattoo from the mean streets of Charlotte, and now she's living the good life!

Thanks again for hooking us up with the sweetest dog ever!  I'll stay in touch with news in the future.
Hope all is well with you guys!
Regards,
Marsha Farrell

Murphy adopted May 2006 and Lily adopted July 2006

Adopted by their fosterparents Stephanie and Walter. Yes, sometimes we get attached and adopt our fosterdogs!!!!
Here they are in their  Batdog Halloween Costumes

Yager  adopted November 2006

Thought you would want to know that Yeager is doing great.  He has settled right in – he cried when we put him in the crate so we took him out and let him sleep on a doggie bed beside Toby, our Lab.  He slept through the night with NO potty accidents.  He is eating like crazy – and loves Toby – licks him on the face and follows him around.  Toby kind of looks at him, like is this a sleepover – what time is he going home? :) He loves to lay under our kitchen table or under the chairs.  He was hesitant when we got home but is definitely over that and seems to be feeling very comfortable!!

 We love our new addition!!

Thanks, Donna

Dhani (aka Augen)
adopted September 2006

I adopted a 7 week old German Shepard mix puppy from you on September 16th, his name was Augen.  I just wanted to send you a picture of him, (Dhani...."da-han-knee") so you could see how great he is doing.  He is a healthy little guy who loves to play in leaves and steal his brother's toys. :)

I hope you have a happy holiday season!

Thanks again!

Loki (aka Static) adopted September 2006
“Honey, where’s the puppy?”

We were sitting at the kitchen table having breakfast on a Saturday morning when we realized that we hadn’t seen (or heard) our newest edition to the family for a good 30 seconds.  Considering that our “newest edition” was a 9-week old Norwegian Elkhound pup, that could spell big trouble.

Our calls quickly elicited a series of muffled yips coming from the vicinity of the living room couch.  A closer inspection revealed two hind legs, a fuzzy butt and a furiously wagging tail quickly disappearing into the space underneath the couch.  Worried, my boyfriend and I immediately crouched down and peered into the gloom and saw a dust-covered muzzle and two bright eyes staring back at us.  “Do you think he’s stuck?” I asked, still amazed that our chubby little guy had managed to squeeze himself into the barely-four-inch space.  “Only one way to find out,” my boyfriend replied, and proceeded to waggle a bacon chew in full line of site of our fuzzy contortionist.

We got our answer a bare two seconds later when puppy wiggled right out from under the couch, snatched up the treat and proceeded immediately to his bed to have a good chew.  All his fur was standing straight out from his body due to the static electricity generated from wiggling against the carpet and the underside of the couch.  “Guess he wasn’t stuck then,” my boyfriend commented dryly, checking to make sure he still had all his fingers.

That was four weeks ago and Loki is now way too large to fit under the couch (although it doesn’t keep him from giving it the old college try every now and then – just in case.)  We first saw Loki with the Lake Norman Animal Rescue at the Mooresville Wiener Dog races and after researching his breed on the internet we decided he would make a great addition to our little family.  We changed his name to “Loki” – the old Norwegian god of Mischief – and he works very hard to live up to it!

Loki is almost 100% potty trained and has learned to “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “drop it,” “lay down” and “leave it!”  We’ve enrolled him in puppy school where he does very well and thoroughly loves playing with the other pups.  Although getting a puppy was definitely a lifestyle adjustment for both my boyfriend and I, I can’t imagine coming home now and not seeing his fuzzy little face and wagging tail.  We
