HOW TO ADOPT A PETPlease read carefully... after years of experience we have determined this is the quickest , most efficient and best way to handle adoptions and to help ensure you and the pet are a very good match. All of our animals come from Rescue situations and we strive to do our best to make sure the new adoptive home will be the pets final forever home. Our adoption procedures are as follows:We are unable to consider any home with out first the potential adopter completing an application. This in no way obligates you to adoption. Completed applications are Mandatory. At this time we are in the process of updating our website and the on-line application is unavailable. In the mean time, please cut and paste our temporary application and your answers in an email. We apologize for this temporary inconvenience.WE ARE HAPPY TO CONSIDER OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS, in fact we have found them to be some of our best homes, however we do not "ship" animals. You are required to travel here to meet and pick up your pet.We are unable to "hold" animals while you vacation. Please visit our website when you return to see if the pet you are interested in is still available. TEMPORARY APPLICATION(please cut and paste this info into an email and send to lknrescue@yahoo.com)
In the lucky event (for our animals) we get multiple applications, please be sure to include all the above info and anything you feel is important. This initial application will be what we base our decisions on. We would rather have "to much info" verses not enough. Please do not ask us to contact you before completing the application....due to volunteer time constraints it is not possible. We are sorry but inquiries without a completed application will not be answered. Process after we receive your application Once your application has been received, it is forwarded to the foster parent. You should be contacted within 48 hours. They screen your application and if your application seems to be a good match for the pet, you will be contacted by the fosterfamily either via email or telephone and at that time they will discuss the pets specific personality and further assess if you and the pet will be a perfect match. If approved arrangements will be made for you to meet. Most often we will hold the dog/cat until the next available adoption event at Petsmart. We adopt out of the Petsmart in Mooresville NC from 10-2 on The first and Third Saturdays of each month. If you application is not approved you will also be contacted. Sometimes we get multiple applications and in those cases we will go with the best match for the animal. This may not mean your home is not satisfactory, it quite often means we simply do not feel it is the best match. We highly suggest you submit an application at least 24 hours prior to the Petsmart event, however every effort will be made to accommodate "later" applications. We will "hold" pets for approved applicants from 10-11 at Petsmart and after 11am they will be placed back up for adoption. We have found this is the most fair procedure for our pets. We would hate for them to lose out on another home if you chose not to or are unable to make it.On special occasions, we will arrange visits at other times. If you see a pet you are interested in adopting, however this usually reserved for families that have to travel great distances. Please keep in mind we are an all volunteer Rescue, we will do our best to work quickly, however we ask that you be patient. Most applicants will be contacted within 24 hours.Due to volunteer time constraints and safety we do NOT set up visits with pets without having a completed, approved application. After adoption we do ask that you keep us updated on the progress of your new pet.....None of our volunteers receive a monetary paycheck....our paycheck comes in the form of seeing and hearing about our rescued pets in their loving new homes. All pets will be altered (spay/neutered) before adoption. Adoption FeesAdoption fees are GENERALLY: |
